Simple, have it as an option!

*Mind blown, face desk*

"But...but...but...Postal!!! What do you mean?!"

If two parties want to be able to share titles across their systems, then require them to authenticate it with the servers!

XBO: "Dear Server, today I lent my best game, Super Ninja Astroid Dog Kick, out to my best friend, because we love each other!"

Server: "Check". *Server deactivates title on lenders system, activates it on recipient*

-3 days later-

XBO: "Dear Server, today I broke up with my bestest friend, he kicked my cat, and want my game back."

Server: "Check" *Deactivates title on 'friends console', activates it on original owners.

If at anytime during the lending period the original owner puts in the disk or tires to fire up the game, they are prompted with the reminder it isn't available and is being lent out.

The point I am getting at is that their DRM didn't have to be a REQUIREMENT! It simply could have been optional, but instead they forced it on everyone. Then when more than valid issues on the matter were raised, they gave those people the finger!

Wrong wrong wrong!

The entire system should have been an Opt in system from the start! When you fire up the XBO it asks if you want to participate in these advanced features, that will require a 24 hour check-in and internet connection, or not to participate. That way those of us with really awesome connections can opt in and take advantage of these features. While those without proper connections can pass, and not have their ability to use the system impacted in the slightest bit!
agreed/brilliant! biggrin.gif

but yea,, MS freaked out and pulled out completely instead of halfsies

I mean keep the two mutually exclusive. If you want to buy the damn game online and download, then go and do it. However, if you want to use a disc and use disc-check as the 'DRM', you can go that path too.

My point is that they couldn't keep digital and physical mutually exclusive (or more like they refused). They forced DRM on disc-media for their digital intent and now removing DRM to promote the disc-media status quo, they retired all their work on digital.

People here wanted disc-media to be treated how it was always treated and even though we wanted the same for digital media, their plans for digital media were good too. They could of just split the ground on how digital purchases and disc purchases are treated in related to DRM.

I hate the fact PS4 is looking like the better system i was a die hard xbox and 360 fan, love there controller, but hate how they went about xbox1, Console looks decent, controller looks better, TV features are cool but..... instead of going all out specs, they invested in the cloud which was a good investment till this No internet connection needed rule was put into place like you said making cloud fragmented. and then on top of that forcing kinect 2.0 on us, its kinda cool but gimmicky all giving there console $100 premium over ps4 but not giving Everyone equal value, but if they make a SKU of the xb1 with out kinect 2.0 it will end up like kinect 1.0

I have ps4 pre-ordered (not sure if its day1 or not) and i will most likely pick up xbox1 in January unless my ps4 preorder isnt day1 in which case id buy xb1 first and get ps4 when it becomes available again thumb.gif

I just realized that they weren't still clear on certain things from their memo.

1. Do you still need to activate your disc games once for every game you get for offline play or do you need to activate your X1 first?
2. It still needs an Internet activation (albeit at least/at most once in the console's lifetime).
3. You still can't turn the X1 off completely eh?

PS @ xSociety: PS4 was seen running BF4 @ 1080p @ 60 FPS. I think they had V-Sync on for all their other E3 demos. That article is pretty moot when comparing raw power of both consoles. Sorry.

Hmm... Damn... Just when I was really starting to look forward to some of the Xbox One's features. After thoroughly reading through it and understanding it's positives, I began to actually like those features and look forward to them like the "family" sharing, no disc needed, and anywhere access of games/saves. The problem was Microsoft's own explanations of the console which seemed to dwell more on the negatives... Holy hell, their PR team is the worst! Hell, even my friends who were absolutely livid and pissed at Microsoft due the Xbox one started to think change their tune about the positives of the whole idea after I explained how it actually works (as opposed to what they've read in the kicked beehive internet forums or from Microsoft's own "reveals").

Honestly, the only thing I was really going to miss about all of this was the buying/selling of games on ebay. Now I guess I can do that again, but the over-all convenience and expanded game library due to the "sharing" system is gone. Oh well.

I don't know whether to high-five or sit in the corner shaking my head at the internet. Regardless, the whiners are just going to move onto a different topic now that one is out of the way. ...and thus, it never ends.

Yeah even though I really would like to play Forza 5, there are still a few more niggles that makes me unconvinced somewhat on the X1.

Lol at everyone who's saying "It's too late MS." They change the policy because it's what the majority wanted, yet this thread continues to look like a diary of a bitter ex. Of course if we're going by the general public and not a bunch of forum dwellers, then a lot of people are very happy right now and I can see the turn around in X1 preorders already.

This might just save them from utter disaster. I don't think Xbone is going to be a roaring success though. rolleyes.gif

Sorry, but you are mistaken.

Microsoft didn't just change their tune on DRM, to get back at the consumer they pulled the one good feature the XBO actually had, and that is the Family Sharing. Pulling that feature wasn't required in order to deal with their crap DRM, go back two pages to my previous post if you want to know more on that.

What it amounts to is Microsoft throwing a fit, and instead of just owning up to their horrible mistake, they are going to 'take' something with it....
