CS and CS:GO don't really need to be as threaded as Dota 2 and TF2 but more would be nice especially for the AMD crowd and their many small cores with poor IPC.

Specifically CSGO:

Disabling 2 cores + HT in bios reduces my frames by over half. My graphs are a lot more stressed than dmaster's, but my i7 isn't overclocked.

Edit: 2 cores + HT enabled actually boosts frame rate quite a bit. Not as stable as 4 logical cores though.

So.. CS:GO active thread count: 4> 2+HT > 2
then you need a core for the os and other background tasks. There is more going on where you can't judge thread use by watching graphs jump up in down. I think you look under the performance tab or something and see how many processes it uses?

I'm GPU limited if anything in that screenshot. I run low settings across the board.

AMD CPU's also have fantastic FPS. At least the 8350 does, unsure about the rest. FPS on the 8350 is fairly close to my Intel system. What do you mean by background load? Prior of starting my game up, I have 0-1% usage.

I think if budget allows that would be actually a very solid idea. Problem is its ~100 at least for decent semi-custom loop. By "AIO" I think that if they would be going for that route they should put GPU as well under liquid. You can get something like to at approx higher end AIO price point. Say, 240mm or 280mm rad, cheap CPU, GPU block, a small pump and handful of fittings. With off the shelf parts something like:
Pump + top http://www.aquatuning.de/product_info.php/info/p13015_Alphacool-DC-LT-Ceramic---12V-DC-Pro.html ~30 eur
Rad + fans http://www.aquatuning.de/product_info.php/info/p15472_Bundle-Alphacool-NexXxoS-ST30-Full-Copper-240mm--Standard--mit-2x-Yate-Loon-D12SL-12-1350rpm.html ~42 eur
CPU block http://www.aquatuning.de/product_info.php/info/p15718_CC-CF-1LC-with-Acetal-top-1-8-.html - ~15 eur
GPU block http://www.aquatuning.de/product_info.php/info/p12500_Alphacool-HF-14-ATI-NVidia-Smart-Motion-Universal-Copper-Edition.html ~28 eur
tubes 1m http://www.aquatuning.de/product_info.php/info/p5407_tubing-PUR-10-8mm--5-16-ID--UV-active-black.html - 2 eur
fittings ~10 eur (2x G1/8, 6x G 1/4)
----
~125 eur

Which, I'm sure, can be arranged somewhat down when ordering in bulk. And ofc its the very bottom of the barrel, as far as custom loops go, but it would get the job done and would be able to keep 7870 or even 7950 cool enough if you dont OC (much) without doing too much noise.

But I doubt they would go that route as support of these systems would cost more than just using air parts. But it sure would be awesome if it would come out of the box liquid cooled.

L4D3 with new souped up graphics could be good, L4D2 looks a bit dated and clunky, although I like the general vision and character of it. Good voice acting in L4D2. That's one of the few games in which it is as fun to lose as to win.

I've said this before, Valve isn't going to release "just HL3". It's far too big of a deal to try and only rake in the sales profits. The advantage which Steam got was enormous when they released it with HL2.

They're going to make a new engine + HL3 + steambox, all happening simultaneously. They don't "care" about fan opinions, and to be honest, you can't blame them considering how many negatives I've heard about the HL2 launch; game being delayed, launched with a ****ty service that was ahead of it's time, and the whole game being largely leaked with it's source code, before release. But most importantly, as a business, HL3 is what they want to release with something else, and it's a "product they can't let fail".

Now regarding Steambox... it'll be interesting what kind of model they are going after. It's going to be a PC, but how much loss-leading do they allow (most probably none, since installing other things is allowed). They already tried the ice with something that was horrible (Piston) and then quickly pulled out after the results of that experiment came out and the reaction was overall a negative one.

What I think is going to be the thing is GPGPU, that allows for some neat stuff. It's already being applied on the next gen consoles, which have horrible CPUs but a fair deal of GPU power in comparison. We'll have to see what Valve is trying to do with the next generation "PC-CONSOLE" of theirs.

Given how they talked about the living room...

It's going to be a game which is playable with a pad, big screen, and by that time that catalog sporting big-picture supported games is big enough for them to release it as a console alternative.

The big thing is a price though. How can they justify it as just a console? They can't do rather genius custom solutions like Sony did with PS4, they'll have to play around with what they can get.

They can't market it as a powerful multipurpose device either, if they're going to leave it in the living room. I doubt they're going in for wireless displays or anything like that.

I honestly don't care about graphs and what processes are going on.

I know my average frame rate in most maps in conjunction with 5v5 players. My results are subjective to what I perceive in game.
