How much higher can I raise vcore without damage

right now the system is at 455*8 at3640mhz and doing ok at 1.5250vcore I believe and the temps are near 32ish idle and 47-48*c at full load on orthos. my goal is get up to the 3.7ghz range at least but I don't want to fry the chip due to high voltage. how high do you guys think I can go?

Those are real nice temps for that vCore!

Dont go past 55c at load, and you should be good

Although that vCore does seem quite high.

Is that actual, or what its set to in BIOS?

Remember, the P5B Dlx has a vdroop!

that is settings in bios. actuall read in speedfan is 1.48v
as far as the setting in the bios I believe it is 1.5250 it might be a tad higher though by one click or two. what do you mean that voltage seems a little high

I've read the speed in both speedfan, coretemp, and tat and all read about the same. I'm just hoping they are reading correct.

but you think I have more room to add voltage without anyproblems?

from what ive been hearing, vcore only damages your cpu by the heat it produces.. i may be wrong on this. but as long as you stay in safe temps. no more than 60C you should be safe, from what i see you can prlly do more than 3.7.. excellent cooling whatever it is. make sure your temp readins are accurate as well. wouldnt want a fried chip due to false temp readins. i use more than one temp reader for my cpu. TAT and asus probe for me

it's air cooled using the tuniq tower. guess I will try some more voltage here and see if I can hit 3.7ish and hope things go ok. back in a moment.

EDIT: tried 3.73 I believe it was but was unstable at 1.5375v so I'm now down to 3.680 at 1.5375v.
next step in voltage is 1.55v and I donno it just didn't seem right without knowing for sure how much this thing can take as far as voltage goes.

what week cpu do you have?

my cpu is week 26a
one second though computer did a reboot need to change something back in asecond

EDIT: ok doesn't seem to like 460*8 and starts it's whole reboot random thing. so I'm now at 455*9. though if I remember right it didn't like anything above 460*6 either so I think this might be somethign with the mobo but no big deal.

I am cheating a little bit I guess you could say though. I have the tuniq tower setup with the stock fan in there also with the way my case sits I have a delta 120*38mm 130cfm as well which the tuniq just misses butting up against which I'm sure is helping though as well and with the thermal goop I'm using coollabratories liquid pro. they claimed it's good so i figured it was worth a shot. I can't seem to find amny reviews of it though and the only one I did find seem to claim 3*C at idle and around 6*C at full load vs AS5.

yeah you should lok at my thread about the p5b d strap issue it explainssome sstuff of why the mutli change is effecting the mobo, you may have to change some settings like the nb voltage fsb term voltage and make sure your ram is able to handle that speed

also the vdroop makes actual voltage lower then whats set in bios by alot thats why your prob really doing the 1.48 that speed fan tells you so looks like yours is like .05 below what you set in bios (roughly)

as long as you keep your trmps down your fine and i woudl stick with your stock mutli for now to get the most out of your setup

excessive voltage can damage or should i say shorten the life of your cpu but as long as you keep it cool then you should be allright

edit: heres the link for what im talking about with the boot strap issue

yeah I've read that before. so far going from 6x to 8x doesn't seem to affect my max fsb. as far as the ram goes I can use it at 355mhz fsb with the multiplier setup to make it run at 1065 and it is stable as can be. here I'm only running it at roughly 910mhz with the same timings. nb is at max voltage with no change. and to try to up the multiplier for the cpu would put me easily at 4ghz which I'm not too fond of doing yet with the voltage for the cpu that will prolly be required.

EDIT:just saw your second post
nb at 1.55 right now have tried 1.65 with no change. fsb at 1.45 mem at 2.35 910mhz 4-4-4-8 vcore 1.5375 reading 1.49-1.50depending on load. ich at 1.25 I believe the setting is or whatever the max setting is on this board.
