Do HDD's need cooling? - Page 2

These people are right, it doesn't take much airflow to cool a drive. 30-50CFM does wonders, but at 0CFM some drives will get very hot (large 3 and 4 platter drives and fast 10,000+ rpm drives).

There are HDD coolers with heat sinks and skinny fans that will only set you back about $15 or $20. The fans are quiet, too. I have a cooler on my Raptor.

you can buy water cooling for HDDs also if you want to spend the $$ for an even more silent PC
post #14 of 16
that would just slow down the water in his loop and would raise cpu temps, just get a near silent fan that pushed about 40cfm and your good

It depends what type of HDD you have my friend has one of those Raptor X's and he needs to actively cool his HDD while i have two "regular" HDD and i just keep them 2 slots away from each other

They dont NEED cooling, though sometimes its just safe to have. Though dont waste water on them. Any decent HDD cooler will be plenty enough.
