HD 9000 cards will come in at €450 for HD 9950 and €550 for HD 9970. so if you want to buy a HD 9950 you will have to stick with the reference cooling which should be quite good. I hear AMD has a vastly improved reference cooler for HD 9000 cards.

ha ! oh... that wasn't a joke ? sorry...

saw your post in the other thread too. I've got exactly 450€ for the GPU and I won't stretch that budget. I know what I want. A watercooled GPU. For me needs a 7870 is already enough so I'm really not worried about getting what I want with my budget, in fact, I could get more than I need right now. For me it's simple, I'm investing 300€ in a GPU and getting a waterblock for it which leaves about 50€ for a couple fittings, PK-3, shipping, etc... I may be able to put 320-330€ on the GPU but that's it, no more.
The obvious option right now is a 7950 + waterblock, that would cost me around 300-350€. And then an extra 45€ for BF4. I could get a 7970 but those are 50% more expensive than the 7950s here and that's for the non-GHz edition cards so it's really not worth it. Especially since the 7970s seem to have a couple issues (I've seen more than a few threads about stuterring lately).
Now BF4 is rumoured to be bundled with next gen AMD cards so that would save me 45€. I may be wrong but I think that if that's the case, next gen will be my best option.
If AMD release their cards at more competitive prices than Nvidia, Nvidia may drop it's 7** serie cards' prices and the 770 which costs over 360€ at the moment could fall in my budget but AMD would probably still be the better option so I highly doubt I'll be going Nvidia this time (never had an AMD card before).

By Sep 10th you will know if BF4 is coming free with HD 7900 cards. as for your budget if you want a watercooled GPU, HD 7950 is the clear choice.

Got to give you +Rep for looking at my location and finding products on .fr websites thumb.gif.

Amazon isn't reliable in terms of PC components. Here in France barely any website si actually. What happens way to often is you order a GPU, end up with a different model (for example a non reference 7950 that I can't watercool) than what you ordered and you can either return it under 7 days (by paying the most expensive kind of tracked shipping) or you can keep a card that isn't what you wanted. Materiel.net and Ldlc.com, maybe topachat, are the only places I'd go for a GPU, anywhere else I'm not guaranteed to recieve the right model.
Plus Amazon is quite expensive component wise and has very little options to pick from.

Anyway, the same card is between 250 and 256€ on the reliable sites smile.gif.

Trouble with that card is, as you mentionned, that it will fit 7970 blocks which also means that it probably won't fit 7950 blocks. The only good looking block out there that is still avaible is a 7950 one (CSQ looks like **** if you ask me, unless you've got an entire rig equiped with the frosted ones). And I'd rather have a block that covers the entire PCB which is also a good reason to wait on AMD's next cards (although it's no where near sure EK will make a block I'll look for the card I can afford).

And even if I end up getting a 7950 with that waterblock, I doubt they're going anywhere between now and whenever AMD releases their new GPUs, they may even become cheaper and as I said I'm in no hurry at all smile.gif.

don't go for a HD 7950 PCB. the HD 7970 PCB is recommended when looking at extreme voltage overclocking. the extra 75w power through a 8 pin PCI-E power connector instead of 6 pin and the extra power phases on the HD 7970 design are very useful for stability at 1.25+ Ghz overclocks. if you get a good clocking chip you also want the best PCB to extract the most out of it. smile.gif

look for the best possible full cover HD 7970 waterblock thumb.gif

Hmmm... that's some good info right there. EK did make the same block as for the 7950s but they don't sell it anymore. It probably was replaced with the *cough* magnificent *cough* CSQ blocks. Anyway, I'll keep that info in mind if in October the 7950s are still the best option smile.gif.

Thanks a lot thumb.gif

EDIT: the CSQ blocks cost 10€ more than the good ones... that's just stupid.

Isn't AMD going to go straight to 9000 series cards?, Since their APUs have 8000 series card?
