Question on Asus M5A97 am3+ mobo

Hi, i have this motherboard, http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A97/ . i am doing a build for a friend, and due to the watercooling loop i need to put the radeon 6850 into the 4x slot, because the motherboard supports crossfirex, will the 4x jump up to 8x and be usable? or will i have to re-route the loop, performance isn't as much as aesthetics here, i would like to just know if what i want to do will work. thanks in advance smile.gif

The black slot is a 4x only slot, it's not going to change to 8x by putting anything into it.

You will likely not see much of a performance difference from that card to be honest (if any at all) in the 4x slot. There should be no problems if you use that slot instead of the 16x (dark blue one).

Un-sure what you mean by supporting crossfire, are you intending on using crossfire with the dark blue 16x and the 4x black slots? Because crossfire/sli means linking two or more cards together, to share workloads.
