What TIM to use beneath the IVY IHS ?

Hi
I'm thinking to replace the TIM under my 3570K heat spreader to get some more overclock.
Which one should I use ? Is there a specific TIM that can damage whatever materiel the chip itself is made of ? Maybe another one which is especially good for contact between chips and metals ?

I heard alot of folks using the Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra or Pro models. Some people swear by it, even though its electronically conductive. But I hear its a very effective TIM to use under the IHS

Anybody here have experience with Arctic MX-4 or Noctua NT-H1 under the IHS? Any results?

We Delidded my friends 3770k the other day and didnt have any CLU on hand so we decided to use mx-4 instead and it worked great we saw a good drop in temps and most importantly even temps at load. It was easy to do and I would suggest it to anyone who is worried about temps. The 3770k we managed to take to 4.4ghz extremely easily with minimal bios or voltage tweaks.

I delidded on a whim the other day and all I have at the moment is MX4. I actually have CLP on order because it's 9 times more conductive than MX4 but played around with some OCing tonight and I think things seem alright with the MX4.

Chillin, looks pretty good with MX-4 only....but isn't that 4th core pretty off? Its like 14-15C higher than all the other 3

Originally I ran into this problem as well with one core being slightly higher. About 7-10c, so after staring at the screen for a moment we realized we had to do it again and reapply the mx-4 better. So we applied a small layer across the entire CPU die, keep in mind Mx-4 goes along way!! So I cant stress that it must be a thin layer

This is how we did it the first time which I believe is wrong.


This is how it should be spread.. But it will look like Mx-4 not CLU smile.gif


This gave much more balanced results with one biotch of a core that sits 3-4c higher than others under load. Its the CPU itself though not the delidding. It had this problem before hand

Yeah I know its okay to have core temp differences here and there....but I just thought the 15C was too high, especially AFTER a delid.....pre delid would make more sense and probably Intel messed up at the factory

Anyway....so even MX-4 spread an extremely thin layer? Did you end up using a brush or something? I always applied TIM by letting the heatsink spread them....but I'm not sure how this will work under the IHS since its so small

Yeah we tried it both ways and spreading it gave more even results and high stability. A brush is recommended but we only had a credit card lol. It took patience to make it perfect
