Ok guys I have an idea that it might be the power supply but im not sure, so far ive got windows to repair it completed i shut if off and after that it still didnt get through the loading screen after the restart. Next ive taken out all but one stick of ram and just had the essentials still didnt make it, i swapped out to my second stick, same results. Ive changed the power supply to another 300w while my computer at the min is a xfx ati radeon hd 4770 a core 2 duo and 1 gig of ram with 1 sata hard drive. Ive reset the bios to defaults still nothing. Could it be because i never installed the driver for my new motherboard? I have a cd with the driver on it, should i boot from it or something? Ive checked the heat sink and fan it seems to be on there correctly and snug. I dont know what else to do, could my windows 7 be corrupted or is it just my power supplies acting up? I dont understand.

the hd 4000 series are power-hungry. a 300w won't cut it. i know my 4870 pulls 160 watts all by itself.

Thats another strike against the power supply, but why does it shut down at the windows screen right as soon as its about to go to the home screen and not at any other time?

it's likely getting a major power pull at that time as your gpu is likely kicking up strong to ensure your graphics needs are met as you log into your windows desktop. before then, your computer is using a lower resolution and i'm guessing lower graphics.

It may be your hard drive, I've encountered this same issue before when building a system for my niece, I was using an old HDD and got the same problem as yours. Do you have other hard drives that you can use and check?

Could the cmos battery possiably be dead and be causing the problem?
