Rad and fan choice - Help needed!

Hi OCN,

Would going for a 540mm Alphacool XT45 over a 480mm UT60 be intelligent? It will be going into a TJ07.

If it is, what would be a good 180 fan for it? Silverstone's AP181's?

Thanks in advance,

If it were me, If I was going with the 560, I would use THESE , I do own 4 of them as well.

If going with the 480, GT AP-15 would be my first choice.

So depends on what rad you go with. You get more raddage with the 560 but less fan choice. You get allot more fan choice with the 480.

So what rad are you going with?

I've been looking for rads myself, I came across an article on http://martinsliquidlab.org/ i cant find it now, but it said that triple 180 rads have more surface area than quad 140. and of course the bigger the fan the lower rpm and quieter they will be. and i think AP 182 are better than 181 also was in another 180 fan comparison but i'm sorry i cant find any of the articles now cuz i viewed them on my work pc

4*140^2=78400
3*180^2=97200

i was considering the magicool triple 180mm

Hmm not sure. Because my only thought is does the change in thickness (XT45 = 46mm thick, and UT60 = 60mm thick) more than offset the move from 480mm to 540mm.

I was originally going for the 480mm, but I would have to wait for a local supplier to get them in, which could take a while and I know he has a 540mm in now.

If I was to go for a 480, should I definitely aim for the Alphacool UT60? Or maybe go down the XSPC route and maybe pick up a EX480?

Hmm you mean the slimline rad right? (35ish mm?) I think I want to go thicker than that because of the fact that it will cool more. But then I may have to increase the speeds of the fan to have enough pressure to push them through the rad. So many tradeoffs!

I know this from my experience with my old sb rig. I had 2 xspc 240 rads. I was new to wc went to microcenter and got a thick one other slim and ordered 120 gentle typhoons and enermex silent 120 i oc'ed my 2500 to 4.5 and played with the fans and rads at idle they were all the same 23-26 low rpm at 100‰ the difference was slim between rads using same fans about 3-5 degerees but difference between fans was huge typhoons were about 9 degrees better with each Rad of course a lot louder but variation was ~ 65 vs 73 so I kept the slim and typhoons I'm not sure How thickness played with 180s but I'm convinced that thickness of the same Rad is irrelevant
I found this http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Cases-and-Cooling/Water-Cooling-Radiator-Comparison-Thickness-vs-Fin-Density/Radiator-Perfor2up

Hmm thanks for that Egyptian. I think at the moment there will be the same FPI of 7 between the two rads, even if I do go for a RX480 thats 8 so not much of a huge increase. But the biggest thing is I know I can fit a fairly thick rad in the bottom of the TJ07. I will be looking to cool 2-3 high end GFX cards, a LGA2011 CPU and a full cover for a motherboard. So I think I will just wait for the UT60 480 Rad.
