Extremely slow boot and shut down

Thread Starter
Well the other day I was offered a 660ti for my 660. I said sure and took it out to ship to my buddy and put my 560ti back in until the new card came in. it booted up but I couldnt get the drivers installed, it crashed twice BSOD. after that its been all down hill. Ive booted into safe mode removed drivers, then installed the 660ti and new drivers. Ive done a fresh install of windows and still the same thing it takes 5+ minutes to boot completely into windows and the same for shutdown. Ive ran memtest and it passed i only ran 1 pass. I'm not sure where to really start looking past what Ive already. my buddy also sent me an h60 and 2 new fans, while I was digging around I found 1 of my fans cooling the cpu died. so I put in the h60 and new fans.they work fine and my cpu is not overheating, so the cpu isnt throttling. my rig is in my sig and its the same except for the new card, cooler and more hdd's.

cliffs

removed 660 graphics card
put 560ti back in
bsod twice
now it loads windows extremely slow(windows logo pops up and stays for 5 minutes before it starts)
windows is sluggish
shuts down slow 4 minutes probably to shut down
installed 660ti removed drivers and reinstalled
tried different hdd with fresh install of windows

with the fresh install of windows and it still doing it it leads me to believe hardware, but idk. any help would be great

I promise that was not the case. this started when I pulled out the 660 and put in the 560ti to hold me over until the 660ti came in. he sold me the 660 cheap and then offered to trade the 660ti for the 660 to put in the computer at work since they would never need a 660ti, **** the 660 is overkill for what they needed. he had the 660ti in his rig running, he upgraded to a 770. I havent even been able to get it to boot without a graphics card. I bought this system last year when the guy who built it no longer used it. even with the 560ti in there its slow so I doubt its the graphics card. for some reason Im leaning towards the memory but Im not sure. I think when I get home tonight Im gonna run memtest again and let it run for a while and see if anything comes up. other than that I have no clue where to start, I mean I did a fresh install on another hdd and it still was slow so it cant be the drivers because the fresh install had none. so right now Im looking at hardware: motherboard, ram, or cpu. only 3 things I can think of that would cause this with the things I have already tried.

also the 660ti is brand new if its defective its covered under warranty, he would have returned it and I would have heard about it.

TRy changing your boot order so the HDD is first.(Sounds stupid but it happened to me before) i had a bad DVD Drive so it always thought a disk was in and tried to boot for acouple minutes each time

It wouldn't do any good anyway because this problem is at the hardware layer. So if anyone wants to repeat that advice of checking for viruses or malware or something like that, then just tell them that this problem is at the hardware layer (which I think should be obvious).

sorry that was an inside joke. He's not saying its a software problem at all, he's saying shoot the computer and get a new one. Here is the video that he's refering to

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/McAfee-Antivirus-Uninstall-Video-John-McAfee,23155.html

but Im glad to hear Im not the only one that thinks this is a hardware issue. My buddy is sending out some memory for me to test the system with.

also this is not a boot order issue. I have them set correctly and it even does it when only 1 hdd is installed. it doesnt slow down until bios hands over the process to windows and it starts using processing power/memory. the windows "flower" comes up and it stays there for 5 minutes before loading the next screen.
