Potential GPU bottleneck

Thread Starter
I wanted to know if my system would cause a GPU bottleneck if I get a new generation video card?

Current rig:
i7-920 - 4.2 GHZ
ASUS P6X58D - Only PCIE 2.1
6 GB DDR3
Intel SSD

I'm thinking about getting one of these cards.

GTX Titan
GTX 690
GTX 770 Crossfire
ATI 7990
ATI 7970 Crossfire

I want to get a few more years out of the Motherboard and Processor. With Battlefield 4 coming out and running a new 27' monitor my 6970 is not going to cut it.

i7 is still a beast of a CPU and should hold out for a while. I don't believe that this will create a bottleneck for you regardless of which GPU config you go with. I'm not sure if pcie 2.1 will limit multi GPU configs. I'd go with the Titan and call it a day for now.

Further down the line when you upgrade to a new CPU and motherboard, pick up another Titan.

With one gpu you won't really be held back. But with two cards or more you will be leaving some fps on the table.

I would go with the 780, similar performance for a lot less.

the 770 in SLi is the best combo you listed

if you want 1 card i don't think getting anything more then a 780 is justified.
