4670k @ 4.5ghz = 3570k @ 4.7ghz = 2500k @ 4.9ghz? Does this sound about right? Or is Haswell way better than previous gens even with its much lower clocks due to high heat output?

I was hoping more like 300mhz per generation. What do ya'll think? Too optimistic?

This is not really how it works. It depends on the app, also in some apps haswell runs like 20% better than previous gen.

yeah, this.

I think if it were as simple as saying clock for clock 4.5->4.7->4.9 = the same would mean we are actualy seeing no improvements at all considering for instance sandy can easily hit 5ghz where as haswell can not due to heat and stability.

so if haswells average max clock is ~4.5 and sandy is 5 but they get the same score.. how is it any better right?

so that being said, bartouille has a good point.

youll have to compare benchmarks of specific programs across multiple different environments to acurately determine which cpu is best value for that program thumb.gif
