650ti boost or 660

Thread Starter
Looking to play bf3 and cod at 1200p. Short on cash. Max is 180 could possibly snag a 660 used at that price.

I plan to sli down the road so I'm thinking the boost will be good. Seems like I'm reading the 660 is not too much better. Ignore my sig rig BTW.

Oh and I will be looking for Max clocks on stock voltage.

For $140 a 7850 (especially overclocked) is much better than both those cards plus you get 3 free games.

At $190 the 7870 is better than a 660ti and more games (4) and faster than a 660ti

OCN review of 7870 vs 660ti in same system:

Really? I thought the reviews I read said the boost was quite a bit better then a 7850. Like 20%. I've been away for a while so I'm playing catch up with all the new cards. I generally like nvidia. Do the 7870s Oc well?

The 660 outperforms the 650 Ti BOOST by 10-12 percent on average. Also, if you're going to go SLI down the road, then you'd probably want a reference blower-type model.

The cheapest blower-type 660 that I could find (EVGA model 02G-P4-2660-KR) is $185 AR $10 @ NCIX US.

In contrast, the cheapest blower-type 650 Ti BOOST I could find (EVGA model 02G-P4-3658) was $174 AR $10 @ Newegg.

That's a 1GB model, and I wouldn't recommend any 1GB model since current and future games are using much more VRAM than that. A 2GB 7850 would be fine, though.

Thanks for those. I'm probably going with Amazon warehouse deals. Not too fussed about the cooler. I've had two non ref 670s in my case and they did fine. I'll probably just snag what I can afford. But I am afraid that amazon warehouse cards will be bum clockers or need an RMA.

I recommend the 7870 whole heartedly. If I wouldn't lose so much i'd sell the 7950 for a 7870

7870 is roughly equal to a 660ti at stock, but overclocks like a beast to 7950 (670) levels.

AMDs are just overclocking beasts at present. My 7950 will overclock beyond stock 680 levels
