Moving Hard Drive Cage location in 650D - extra cooling necessary?

I have a Corsair 650D and as you know, the top hard drive cage can be moved down next to the PSU. What I would like to do is move that top cage down next to the PSU and then remove the bottom cage and the plastic platform it rests on. The purpose for this is to allow more unobstructed airflow and light from my LED intake fan to my other components.

My only concern with this is will my HDD get too hot being in the central part of my case as opposed to the standard location directly in front of the intake fan? Most people say that 7200rpm HDDs don't produce much heat so I'm thinking this will be fine but then I realized that most HDDs are right in front of that intake fan getting tons of airflow so maybe that's why they are so cool.

If anybody with a similar setup or good knowledge of HDD temps could let me know if this should work that would be awesome.

Also, I have thought about maybe putting in an HDD cooler if that would be necessary for my desired setup. What is a good quality, quiet HDD cooler I could use? (If I even need one)

Thanks

most cheap/mid range computers pre-built don't even have fans on the HDD's and they last for years. HDD coolers are a waste of money and are pointless.

Thanks Shorty, that is the answer I was hoping to hear.

The hottest i've ever seen an HDD get, in a case with no fans is 65C. Yours is never gonna get near that as a single drive, and it's probably still going to get some airflow from the front fan. I doubt you'll see anything above 40C, if you have decent airflow. smile.gif
