HELP! Overclocking Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8 GB PC3-12800 1600mhz 240-Pin DDR3 Dual Channel...

Hi OCN,
I'm fairly new to OCing, though been reading about them for a while now. I've been trying to OC my RAM, just to see how far I can push it and maybe find a sweet OC spot, for a 24/7 use, without overheating them, coz I don't have coolers for them.

Rig Specs are as per my Sig.
RAM specs are as per the Thread title

Okay so here's the problem, I was OCing the RAM fairly safely, without touching the voltage to see how far I can go with just loosening up the timing and OCing through the CPU Bus Freq (FSB / Bus Speed).

Managed to post and load windows on DDR3-1612Mhz (See photos)

Now I tried putting it one up, lining it up with the DDR3-1800, OC to DDR3-1936Mhz. The problem though, and what im confused about is that it dropped the Total Memory to 8192MB. (See photos)

POST and load Windows 7 with no problem at all. CPU-Z, RAMmon and Comp properties is still showing 16GB though.

I don't have screenshots of this though.

However my biggest question is the BIOS, Why did the Total Memory went down?

Can someone please share some knowledge.

Thanks in advance

Are you running Ganged/Linked, or Unganged/Unlinked? (mobo differences in verbage, but same thing). Each mode assigns the channels individually per core, or allows each core 100% of your ram. Also, did you increase voltage of the ram when you OC'd? Loosened timings? The more we know, the better!

Well, all I want to know basically is, if that is the indication that its unstable.

If it is, they I should probably increase the voltage and loosen the timing more. Basically, I'm new to OC'ing RAM.

I know theres not much benefit on OC'ing the RAM, but I just want to try somehow.

What are your target frequencies? Looks like you have everything raised, but some things you may not need to. For example, look at CPU-NB Voltage, it is already 1.40V because CPU-NB Frequency and HT Link is already high. They don't need to be for DDR3-1600, so that may be why it is dropping a memory channel.

Let me know what your goal is, I can tell you what should be changed for max performance, without stressing your hardware so much that it causes problems.

Cheers

I managed to play with them a bit by raising a the voltage and they became more stable.

I read a few things about the HT and CPU-NB Freq but I'm not 100% about them or what to do with them.

With the HT what is better? Higher or Lower?
Also with the CPU-NB? Higher or Lower?

Also combined, is it better that they have closer freq to each other or should it be the same?
