The Catalyst 13.8 Beta 1 supported in the first version of DirectX 9, 10 - and 11-games, as well as OpenGL 4.3 up to a maximum resolution of 2560x1600 pixels. 2 in a still to be expected Beta is then added and the support of higher resolutions (Eyefinity) and DirectX 11.1 and OpenGL 4.3.
AMD specifies a performance loss of a few percent with "Frame pacing". In benchmarks so it is recommended to disable this while players should not notice any difference.
Awesome. Just got my Crossfire setup...well, set up, and I'm yet to notice any of these frame pacing problems, but if it makes it better than it already is I'll take it.
Maybe. From a practical/enterprise/economical viewpoint, it'd be better to have the driver team especially optimize the newer games, while giving us some kind of "here-you-change-customize-software-limiting-from-game-to-game-have-fun-!"-thingy for older games, so they don't have to deal with it / take responsibility for it..
It mentions software base frame metering improvement includes game by game optimizations, also only single monitor was mentioned in getting the update. Guess we will find out when it hits.
From what I know, they've been doing game by game fixes with current drivers. This July 31st driver supposedly fixes things on a different level, possibly adding some sort of frame metering feature.
