Gaming laptop suggestions - Page 2

If you have a hard limit, as in you can't spend more than $900, then buy a refurbished MSI GX60 if all you do is gaming. You won't find a Radeon HD 7970M in a laptop this low unless there's a catch, and there's a catch. The A10-4600M will bottleneck the GPU, but at 1920x1080, I don't think it'll be too significant. You can get it for $900 refurbished.

Of course, if you can spend more than $900, then the options open up tremendously.

There's no way a 900 usd laptop can last 4 years of even medium end gaming.
Realistically, you're looking at 1600+ for a good high end gaming laptop that will probably net you two years of high end gaming, if that even. Technology just moves that fast.
The msi gt60 doesn't look so gamey but check out the sager 8250 for a more business oriented look.
The nvidia 780m is the top of the line gpu atm but is probably too expensive. Look for the upcoming amd 8970 which should be a few hundred dollars cheaper.
Most gaming laptops like the sager, msi and alienware also have limited upgadeability, allowing you to change the cpu/gpu.
Hope that helps.

I disagree. I'm using that Lenovo Y500, and it handles just about everything I can throw at it except Crysis when I crank the settins. And on a 15.6" screen, you can turn the res down to 1600x900. And that's without current Nvidia driver support. Also have the option of adding a 2nd 750m down the road. It also doesn't get hot hardly.

Yeah the Lenovo Y500 is your best bet if you really can't stretch the budget. But if you can, you can get alot more power from a Sager for around $1100.

I don't consider lowering the resolution as high end gaming.
In fact it will give you the poorest results. Your better lowering in game settings rather than lowering resolution because monitors are sharpest at their native res.
My 485m which is a much better gpu than your 750m will probably allow me to game at 1080p till 2014, if I'm lucky.

I need to find a decent laptop that is capable of gaming for the next 4 years effectively that costs less than $900.

Anyone got a suggestion?

You'd be lucky to build a desktop with 900 dollars that lasts 4 years.
