I mean, they could use a pair of 8mm bullet plugs for each phase (one for Vcc and one for ground), they would get an almost identical result performance-wise (using 8AWG wire), and they could hot-swap the mod between cards.

In all honesty, its actually hilarious to look at some of the zombified cards. You almost have to try to be bad at soldering to pull off what they make those joints look like.

The trick is no solder gel and a lot of lead free solder.
What you could also do is just make a screw on board with connection pins on the right place than placing this on top of it to power it.
Would preserve your warranty wink.gif

Are you trolling?

8ga. Does not carry enough surface area to avoid current issues.. this is why direct copper to pcb connections are mandatory.

Lolz at the 'pin mounted' zombie too.. such things are fancy ideas and little else. If your worried about looks or practicality...zombie is not for you. If you think current methods are overboard or "ridiculous"... then you probably havent much experience with zombie modification either.

If it works, it works. Obviously this is all that matters for zombifiers which is fine. But a lot of modders take pride in clean work and try to achieve the best possible connection with what they are dealing with, especially those who solder things other than PCBs.

I wonder how many GPU deaths occur solely from poor soldering, or how many could achieve higher results.

Try moving hundreds of amps with no ripple over a bullet plug. Go ahead, try.

direct connection is far superior to 8ga. .. voltage drop is minimal in comparison

*this is why people are using the method vs. thick cables

*mods dont care for looks..only connection. A "good" mod is a working mod..  zombie is all function over form benching. Forms have evolved to todays direct PCB soldering and solid plating; all in the name of higher current transfer with less voltage drop.

adding in more connection points adds in small amounts of resistance. direct solder bridging/copper plating will give you the lowest resistance possible, which translates into a more stable voltage and amp transfer.

don't get me wrong, some of the soldering in that guide is legitimately ugly and probably filled with pitting, but that's simply nitpicking what remains the best method to connect those boards to each other.
