2500k @ 4.5 ghz bottlenecks my 7870xt crossfire setup? - Page 2

Thread Starter
I have had a discussion with some friends and colleagues. I think this will be the outcome:

I7 3820 with a X79A-GD45 (8D) MSI board smile.gif

reasoning: 3820 little bit faster then a 2600k at stock speeds. I have room to OC the CPU with my Coolermaster TPC-800 cooler. This way i have all the perks of X79 ( x16 x16 in crossfire etc ) with the option to upgrade to the new ivy-bridge e

Looks like a lot of $ spent for the same noticable performane of an i7 cpu drop-in. But then again, we're on oc.net. Like they say in the gym "go big or go home!". smile.gif

3820 is quad core. Well it is a 6 core but two cores are disabled.

@irush: Yeah i guess it is. But you, as one with experience with all the discussed CPU's also believes an I7 with hyperthreading will make a big difference?

I am using my old thread again to ask a question smile.gif

I am currently running with a 3820 @ 4.4 ghz and ofcourse my two cards smile.gif

In heaven i get around 98 % load on both of them.

in games, for example Dead space 3 or BF 3 it fluctuates between 50 and 95 %. Is my CPU still bottlenecking my cards or is there another issue?
