Apple 30" Cinema Display for Gaming

So tonight I'm going to pick up an Apple Cinema Display I found on Craigslist for $400, figuring that it was a crazy good deal and even if I can't game on it I will be able to flip it for as much or more than I got it for. But after reading up on it more, I discovered that this series of monitor is very old, almost a decade. The most glaring spec is its 16ms response time, which is double the Dell U2312HMs I've been gaming on until now. Also, I've read that light bleed gets worse as monitors get older and that these displays are known to have their CCFLs go out, which is an expensive fix that Apple won't take care of. So my overall question, is this monitor worth it?

I wouldn't waste my money/time bothering with something that could end up being a big hassle.

Just buy yourself one of those 30" 1600p Crossovers.

My issue is that time is something I have plenty of, but money not so much. $400 is actually more than I had hoped to spend, as I was originally looking at a Korean 1440p, but I really don't like the idea of buying a second-rate monitor and not having the freedom to return it. In this case, I'll at least be able to see the major defects before purchasing and I can flip it if I really don't like it.

You might want to check out this deal instead: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/monoprice-monitor

It's the same A+ panel, from Monoprice.

Panel Quality
There are a few different 2560x1440px monitors floating around the internet. Lots of folks claim to use the same panels as big name brands but really, the panels they’re using are of a lower grade. Apple only uses A+ panels while most of the folks online use A- panels, prone to false coloration and defects. This Monoprice 27” IPS uses the exact same A+ grade panels as Apple and HP. The front glass even has a small circular clear area where the webcam would go in a Cinema Display… how strange. It’s almost as though they come out of the same factory

Usually if it seems to good to be true most of the time it is. I'd advise you to pass especially since you're concerned about $$. I'd 2nd going for a crossover or even the nixeus vue (couple bucks more & 27") but has warranty support in the US. In a case like this and for that kind of $$ I'd rather take a chance with the Korean cause that's basically what it boils down to...taking a gamble.

Well I got more correspondence from the guy, he seems like a very genuine person. I'm going to insist on testing the monitor before I buy it. He also told me he has 8 months left on an Apple Protection Plan, so that makes me feel better as well. But if I end up not buying the monitor from this guy, I'll probably go in on the Massdrop. I'm just very nervous about the stuff from Korea because there is no backup on that. It looks like they really want to screw you over, but maybe that's because of the vocal minority of people who have had bad experiences.
