I doubt you realize just how many patent that went unused that Apple has made over the years.

As far as I know they aren't into patent buying so maybe this wouldn't apply to them.

People just don't like them because they like suing Samsung, the holy company that makes all electronics that can do no wrong.

The whole legal war between Apple and Samsung was orchestrated for the very reason they state in the article. Because the big boys are abusing patent law to squeeze out the competition.

I don't have much faith that this investigation will result in anything substantive, but I can still dream that it may bring a day when people don't take sides in ridiculous fanboy flame wars over whatever few giants in whatever market are feeding off of the blindness of brand loyalty to take advantage of the rest of us.

Inb4 whatever.

Sweet. That's exactly what the patent system needs.
Moreover, the patent industry needs to be a more polished system. Complete with discouraging this type of "patent troll" activity as well as being more strict as to what type of patents are allowed.

Something general like round corners or a screen on piece of metal is way too general. Patent diagrams need to be specific and any "similar" patents to that need to be different enough to see the difference and yet be similar at the same time.

It should be up to the patent system to filter the application for any previous works of art (patented and unpatented) and approve/deny accordingly by the same rule of being different enough.
