Here is a little different take for $1021.
I went with a Phenom II X4 965 because theyre dirt cheap but very easy to overclock. Crank it up to around 3.8 GHz with a CPU/NB of 2600 MHz and youll have a very capable gaming chip. And since it costs so much less you can put a lot more into other things.
I didnt go with a SSD because thatll save you a lot and with all this money, I got you a GTX770 instead. That will shred any game at 1920x1080. Speaking of which, I spent a little more on a HP 25" screen thatll be very nice to game on.
I dropped the keyboard because you can just go to Walmart and buy a standard office keyboard for $20 and then later on when you get some more cash, you can get something a little higher end. Same with the mouse. Dont spend your rig money on stuff like that when it doesnt really matter. Spend all you can on your hardware first then get the play pretties like gaming keyboards and fancy mice later.
I spent a little more on a motherboard but thats a 8+2 power phase motherboard and will handle a good bit of abuse. With Steamroller also being AM3+, you can upgrade to that in a year with little more than a BIOS update so its a good idea to get a solid motherboard thatll last.
