i7-3770K + CoolerMaster Hyper EVO - Page 2

Yea, it seems to re-enable speedstep after the heat spike. Just tried running prime95 again. Same heatspike at 7-8 min. Thought this time my temps had crawled a little higher one core came up to 86 degrees before the heatspike. Allthough it's hard to tell exactly WHEN they heatspike happens, but it does happen strangely fast (5 seconds). I will try disabling speedstep as well in the bios now.

Yea still getting the spike after disabling speedstep. It's very very strange. But I think I will take your advice and just use my computer as usual, games etc.

Do you know how any good CPU temperature loggers? Ones that create graphs to be precise (ie. not just .log files with lots of numbers).

Thank you for taking your time to respond too! smile.gif

Not sure, never had a need myself. Vaguely remember reading something about including an OSD for the cpu such as afterburners gpu OSD, or maybe it was including it with afterburner dont remember for sure. Be worth a google.

The Z77 extreme 4 has a reputation around here for not having accurate temp sensors, I've heard it commented quite a few times.

As far as experience is concerned, Evo is not enough to cool any 3770K @ 4.5ghz, at least not @ 1.3v vcore.

Lowest reliable would be the D14 or H100 and guaranteed you will see tremendous improvement on load temps.

Well I have moved a few things around in my case a couple fans etc. and managed to get the temps to drop slightly at idle and significantly at load. I guess there was some sort of problem with the airflow at least. I have not tried another Prime95 run yet. However, I've been running 4.5 Ghz. @ 1.328 V without any stability issues. This is 24/7 as well. Been playing CoH2, FarCry 3, Heavily modded Skyrim etc. and my highest temp/max temp reading for each core has been 68, 70, 72, 66. Obviously the highest load hasn't been 100% on all cores, but probably the closest thing it comes to has been 50% +/- 5%. Ambient temperatures have been high as well (25+).
The most CPU intensive usage of my computer that I have is probably working in Ableton on music projects, but I have not done any of that yet.

So while I know it is wiser to do Prime95 tests, this option simply isn't there for me due to those weird ass heat spikes (I tested at stock settings with Hyper EVO and go the same spikes going all the way to 100).

Well thats fine what youre doing provided you always keep an eye on your temps in whatever youre doing. I suggest trying crysis 3 as thats more cpu intensive and see how that does.

You wouldnt want to think 72 is what youll get then you leave some cpu intense program running, rendering a video perhaps and playing a game then get high temps. And i wouldnt leave something harsh running without you keepin an eye on it. If you do any game recording at all try rendering a video in sony vegas or whatever you use. On a setting that is more cpu intensive that doesnt use the gpu.

Yea I figured as much. I have CoreTemp running all the time, and have set the thing to shut down if I hit 90 degrees. Yes, Crysis 3 was one I was thinking about trying out.
Luckely I don't do any video editing/encoding/etc. I may do light photoshop work in the future, but it's not something I've done for quite a while, so I doubt I would ever begin doing big projects in that. The biggest CPU eating applications outside of games will probably be audio editing. But than again, I haven't really had serious loads from any of my projects there. But yea, I'm keeping an eye on the temps and eventually I hope I will get a sense of my use vs. temperatures vs. stability. For now things work fine at least.

They only heavy long lasting thing I sometimes run without my supervision is deframenting.

And thanks again Bluemustang, the speedstep, turbo etc. tricks really stabilized my system a lot!
