My first AMD rig. Sempron 140 - Page 2

If you're not gaming, the Sempron 140 should be good enough if you can get a stable OC on it with the second core unlocked. A stock Sempron is pretty weak these days, but as an Athlon II X2 at maybe 3.3 GHz, it's good enough as an everyday computing platform.

I have a sempron 145 and it is a very nice little cpu, it's pretty amazing how amd can make such a cheap cpu.

I bought mine to run my home server...because i had a spare am2+ motherboard, but it turned out to be a very nive overclocker. unlocked to dual core it does 3.4ghz without even touching the volts, run it stable for 10 hours temperatures are very low.

I'm now in the process of overclocking the little fellow to see how far i can take it biggrin.gif

4.5ghz seemed pretty stable for me

Awesome man, thank you for sharing. Those numbers are impressive. I would push my cpu that far if it could handle it. I know my cooler is up for it smile.gif

I think my cpu might have 1 bad core. When unlocked it fails IBT and LinX even with 1.5 volts on the 3 pass always. It also fails prime 95 on one core right away. Another problem is that with two cores enabled google chrome gets the Aw, snap error

I honestly think one core is bad. When I have two cores enabled all voltages are on auto except vcore and dimm voltage. Could an increase in any of the voltages fix my "bad" core? Maybe it's the sorry a$$ MSI mobo?

Thank you

It does seems you have a bad core. I have bought 2 amd cpu´s that unlocked one extra core and both of them did that without any increase in voltage.

Don´t be sorry overclock that little bastard till you can, when you get your sabertooth you will need a new cpu anyways because it would be really an overkill motherboard for a sempron tongue.gif

Man that sucks to hear, but I guess I already knew it.

There is a reason I got the sabertooth. A future upgrade is always welcomed in my eyes!!!!

Right now with this

[SERVER/DAILY DRIVER] Sempron 140, 890FXA-GD70, 8600 GTS, 8 Gb Doms, 120 GB Torqx SSD, Antec HE550, WinTV-HVR-1250, 1.5 TB Seagate HDD, DELL PERC 5I W/ HD204UI 2TB x 6 RAID 5

at idle with both cores unlocked I am pulling about 160 watts as I type this PM. I originally wanted to build a low powered daily driver. I know the 8600GTS probably used way to much power so I know I need to work on that. I know in the future I'm gonna get the "itch" and will be getting a new cpu but, I want to make sure it's not a power hog. I would be so happy if I had a little beast like yours!
