Help me Spend $160 credit at Newegg

Hey all, have a $160 newegg credit and cant decide what to get. Build is in sig. Looking for opinions on hardware purchases, i dont need any software.

Ive considered a new PSU, new case (love mine but has 0 cable management), another 3TB or greater hdd (not really pressed for space as i have 2x 3TB drives), other then that i cant think of anything that would be of benefit.

Im pretty happy with my onboard sound, i dont really have room for any more monitors, dont need speakers/headphones. I also have a computer toolkit and external raid enclosure.

I guess i could always get something non-specific to my computer. Any suggestions would be great thanks

Hmm, kind of a tough call. I'd put a toss up between another GPU or PSU (although another GPU might mean considering another PSU in tandem). Everything else in your system is pretty fleshed out.

Personally, it might be worth hanging onto in the near future until something like the next gen GPUs start launching.

I'd look at new case. You cable management is uh.... troubled? It would give you much better airflow.

If you were to fix that you would see a drop in temperature and noise. As far as the PSU. Run it till it dies. Which it will, just be prepared to replace it at some point as its a cheap unit.

the new corsair case is shaping up to be pretty amazing and should accommodate you. IE you can just throw cables in the back with ease.

We dont know its a cheap unit

Yes OCZ does have a few good models so calling it crap before we even know what he has is not fair nor good advice

The psu is an older model OCZ. I can't remember the model number or series off the top of my head but I used to have the 750 watt version in my previous rig.

It lasted roughly 2 years and if I remember correctly its not even bronze certified.

It's a cheap unit.

I'm not saying it needs to be replaced immediately just that he can't expect it to last a long time. I personally just run cheap PSU's into the ground. They are never fun or sexy things to upgrade.

If it is a crappy cheap PSU then it needs to be killed before it gets the chance to kill any hardware

Death to all crappy PSU´s

Thats how you kill hardware

Its not "crappy", has been powering rigs for at least 4-5 years without issue. It is however older and im not sure the exact model. Im certainly open to a new PSU, was looking at corsair 750w like hx or tx models i think. Problem is my cases cable management sux...no i take that back its non-existent. On the other had it has everything else i want in a case, i like the metal mesh look with some accent color, front usb 3 and esata, plenty of places for fans. Sure there are better ones out there but for the price its a great case, except when it comes to cable management frown.gif

That corsair 540 is sweet, i had considered that or another corsair case that resembles mine without the color and a side window, forget model. If i get a case i want one that can handle atx motherboard and liquid cooling in the future (which the 540 should), i may end up with that who knows.

Do you guys think the case or the PSU would be a bigger upgrade. If i upgrade the case how much do you think i could get for my current one, like 20-30 bux?

Thanks

The PSU upgrades depens on what it is you have now if its something like a crappy then you need a new one

Just becasue something is old does not make it bad if its a Z series 550 watts you have you can still find newer models that are far worse

I wont call it good or bad untill i know what it is

Its not fair to the owner calling it bad when we dont know what it is
