Y500 + 120hz Monitor?

Hi OCN, I have had a Y500 for a couple weeks now(750M SLI, i7 3630QM, NOT HASWELL). I've had the Viewsonic VX2268WM for my desktop. After a friend telling me it is possible to get 120hz if I plugged in my monitor to the laptop, I purchased this and just tried it. I was able to get the native resolution of 1680x1050 on the monitor, but I could only get 60 hz.

So is it possible for me to get 120hz in the first place? Did I just get the wrong cord? I know there's something about the different types of HDMI which I'm not too sure about, but the same friend that told me I could get 120hz said the cable I posted above would work.

Only Display port and DVI will give you 120hz.
