Hello,

Just got done reading through all your adventures with the case to date . . . that is a lot of work not to mention the passing of several mobos. I can see by your posts that you have a real passion for this project . . . keep up the great work . . . BTW how's the new job going? thumb.gif

Cheers

Fen

Thanks very much fen. This project has been in the making for about 2 years now since i had the initial idea and it's never far from my mind. Even as i sit on the bus writing this i keep drifting off thinking about how i'm goin to do some of the things i want. lol It's been in my head for a very long time and had a couple of complete design overhalls, some enforced by the change in hardware, other because I've of though of something that would either look much better, or give the same effect but being much easier to make. I'm still working out some of the finer details, bit i know where i hope to end up.

The job is goin ok, thanks for asking. I miss working with tech geeks though. Got an invoice through for £13.37 the other day. No one else got the joke. wink.gif

Part 8: 10th July '13 - POOOOWWEEEEERRRRR!!!

So after getting bored of moving my hand back and forth over something it without getting any pleasure from it ( whistle.gif ), I went and got myself some proper tools for the job:

1 'Paint and Rust Remover Wheel'

(Thanks to AlienwareAndy for this link)

2 Wire Wheels for the fiddly little hard to reach bits.

So this Saturday just gone I set up my workbench out in the garden to see what these things could do. And boy oh boy did they make things easier!

I found a nice steady movement perpendicular to the rotation of the wheel was best way to ensure removal of all the paint. Unfortunately I also found that the batteries for the 2 cordless drill/drivers were all a bit short on power, so I spent the afternoon constantly switching between drills and batteries. I only got the midplate mostly finished before the girlfriend came round wanting attention and food, so play stopped for the day. I did get a really nice curry and a smartly dressed bottle of wine though biggrin.gif

Sunday with batteries at full tilt, F1 and the Wimbledon final on the radio I managed to get the front panel and FDD bay cover done before BBQ time cheff.gif

I really like the finish the black wheel gives the metal. Gives it a much more raw look as opposed to when it's brushed.

Once all the panels are finished I may just get a new wheel and give them a light 'polishing' with it rather than brushing them with scotchbrite pads.

This evening after work I finished off the bits of the midplate I had missed, did the midplate support and PSU cage. The latter 2 were done entirely with the wire brush as the small surfaces of the structures are quite uneven.

I couldn't get into a couple of corners on the underside of the PSU cage base which was rather annoying. I'll have to get in there with some wire wool. Or I might just leave it as no one will see it guiltysmiley.gif

That leaves just the back panel to do, which needs a few alterations first and I may also revisit the mobo plate as I wasn't entirely happy with it. So stay tuned kids for the next installment. Same Crap time. Same Crap channel. Until then Crapfans...
