Can this work with a crossfire 2x Amd Radeon HD 6950? I wonder if it's perfomance is better? Can you show an example how to mod the radeon driver?

Whenever I try to install the driver in the OP, I get the following error:

Driver Install: the driver package did not preinstall because files that are referenced by the INF file could not be found

I'm running a Power Color HD7870
Just to update, I managed to get around that.

As it turns out, the later ATI drivers don't like being unzipped with 7-Zip and so I had to use the installer to uncompress the files to a dir. first.
That being said, I followed the step by step instructions(.inf/msi mod) and everything went well, though to my disappointment, this did not result in getting the FirePro control panel, which in turn contains the settings that I was hoping for(30 Bit color). frown.gif

Is it possible to mod workstation cards to have gaming drivers?
Treedude,

After some comparison of the rows in atiicdxx.msi, here my deduction for some of the fields in the ASIC_IDs table.

BusSpeed (PCIe bus speed): 0x0=PCIe 2, 0x1=PCIe 3
FGL (Fire GL): 0x0=not Fire GL card, 0x1=Fire GL card
AGPTransfer (PCIe lanes): 0x4=PCIe x4, 0x10=PCIe x16 [Note: 0x10=16]

Hope this helps. I just change FGL to 1 for my 7970.

Eddy

I've run into the same issue as you - how do you uncompress to a dir.?

Cheers

If you launch the installer, it'll ask you where to uncompressed the files prior to installation.
I just let the thing go and quit before actually committing to any of the custom install features.

hmm.. I didn't get that?

It doesn't seem to store the files anywhere, the folder it creates is empty frown.gif

Mine just goes straight into the installer - if I download the driver direct from amd I get the option, but opening the ones linked in the OP gives me no option frown.gif

Are there any real benefits for a gamer to use these drivers on R9 290?

I don't think they're available for the r9 290 and I don't think they'd benefit gaming, they only give you access to professional cards' features and makes it perform better in professional programs like adobe, solid works etc....
