Why I would want to spend a ton on a gaming laptop is beyond me. Unless you actually live in multiple places for long periods of time then the desktop is obviously the better option. Portable gaming is useless when it comes to going to school or a 3-day long trip to the bahamas. That's not something you want to pay a thousand dollar premium for. Even even if you do you're still stuck with a slow system that doesn't max the latest titles at 60fps.
You don't see the need because it doesn't fit you're requirements.
You preferences and requires are not universal, they are unique to you.
Don't let your singular linier perspective determine what you think other people need or want.
A gaming grade laptop was perfect for me, however a 3930K + Titan system+ultrabook, doesn't fit my needs at all.
You don't have buy a gaming laptop, but others want them, just because you don't use it or want it doesn't mean others don't as well.
You are not the standard, stop using your singular point of view to appear to have a valid opinion on the subject.
Also my laptop is not slow and maxes most titles at 60FPS or above. don't marginalize the power of a laptop.
