Did I hit the silicon lottery?

Thread Starter
A while back my corsair h80 flaked out and let my fx 8350 get up to 70 degrees c. I was in a game and heard the warning tone and got out after a quick save and then tried to shut her down properly, but windows drug its feet in shutting down so I did a hard shut down via the power button. I have since rma'd the chip to amd and got the replacement chip and installed it and with everything set to auto in the bios it passes prime95 with no issue and im seeing with on cpu-z the volts going to the cpu is actually around 1.23 on idle and looks like 1.27 on load. could it be that this chip is a power sipper and could need less volts to overclock well....I remember in cpu-z before with the old chip it would idle around 1.32 on the vcore. what do you guys think?

While that could be the case, you will only find out until you start clocking it back up.

EDIT: My i5-2500k, at first, only needed 1.28-1.3 Volts for 4.5Ghz stable, but over time it's needed more and more from degradation tongue.gif

Most likely have a low VID chip. I have one that is a 1.28 volt vid, and it is a very good clocker.
Do you know what batch it is? should read 1235 or somthing like that.
