Case Fan question

Thread Starter
i just rebuilt my friends pc using a new case but unfortunate his prebuilt pcs motherboard only has 2 fan ports one for the CPU and the other is System
i have 2 120mm fans that need to be hooked up but i do not want to spend a lot of money on a fan controller what can i do besides using a 3 pin Y adapter (hear its not good to use them on a mobo header)
or spending almost 30 dollars on a fan controller.

sadly the best fan controller that fits my need is discontinued http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811995074

You could plug one 120 fan to the mobo and the other 120 directly to PSU using a fan-to-molex adaptor:

Drawback is you'd lose rpm signal & rpm control, so molex fan would always run at full speed.

If you already have an 'Y' adapter I'd use it, there should be no problem unless the two fans draw an inordinate amount of amperes and the mobo is particularly weak.

well if i did have a Y adapter i would still have one fan left unpowered. i guess i could find a molex adapter or just in general get him a better motherboard considering stock motherboards blows whales

Don't know. Theyre the stock fans on a nzxt apollo
Not at his jouse so I can't check
His cpu is also 14-21Âșc cold haha with stock cooling

They are probably 12V fans, most are that I have seen. You can get splitters that you can run two fans off of the molex connecters from the PSU. Have you thought about getting a fan controller though? I have an NZXT Sentry Mesh Controller 5-Channel 30W $24.99. It is good and you can run two fans off all the channels if you want.
