The WD Caviar Blues are exceptionally reliable if you can get one. I would avoid blacks as they are a TAD less reliable. I am uneducated on the Reds

Reds are slower, consume less power and have lower temperatures. They're made for heavy use, have some nifty features and come with a longer warranty. If you want reliability i'd feel safer going with a Red. If speed is critical i'd go with two 1TB WD10EZEX which are also reliable and one of the fastest HDDs currently available, but i'd make sure they're cooled adequately and/or run them in RAID1 to keep your data safe.

The 3-2-1 rule is a good concept to follow if the data you are backing up is extremely important, I won't go into detail in case you already know but for your data to be secure you should have:

-At least three copies

-In two different formats

-one of those copies off-site
