I'm gonna tell you the settings I use, but keep in mind my videos also look like garbage on Youtube, compared to how they look before uploading.
I use Sony Vegas. I make sure I disable resampling on all my clips so that Vegas doesn't add horrible blur to the clips. Then I render with x264 VFW with the CRF quality at level 18 for 1080p content.
The encode looks great, but after uploading to Youtube it's another story... It's watchable, but it looks bad.
Share some of your videos and your encode settings so that we can help you more.

I think Shadowplay doesn't record with the Full Range color and some mediaplayers don't detect this correctly, making dark footage look too dark. For example, when I directly play the clips on Media Player Classic, it looks dark, but after I reencode them in Vegas, or after uploading to Youtube, they look correct, even though the darkest level is kinda greyish, but I think that's normal from a non-Full Range video. The problem is there is some information lost on the darkest levels and maybe that's why you say it still looks dark when you up the contrast/brightness.
I have to investigate this further. Recording non-Full Range video takes less disk space though.

Here is an old Recording I did. I have not done anything recently.
http://youtu.be/nl01C70fgGE - AC4 - encoded with Vegas (any blur on movement is from encode option I didn't disable so its on purpose tongue.gif )
http://youtu.be/cHcCuqkIys4 - AC4 - encoded with Vegas with edits
http://youtu.be/40qR6gM8I1s - AC4 - recorded with FRAPS and Vegas as a comparison.

For Vegas I encoded with the 1080p Internet config with 20 Mb bit rate as max and 14 as min.
Best Quality. Outputting to MP4.
Disable Resample (removes blur on movement).

Those are old recordings. I need to get some more under my belt, but I've been dealing with audio recording issues.
::: earlier conversation::: using onboard audio for Mic recording and Soundcard for "What you hear" (stereo mix) didn't work for recording Stalker. I might just have to use Onboard mad.gif
I haven't tried using Audacity yet... maybe that will work? I'd use an external recorder if I had one, would make things so much easier!

Actually... now that I think about it better, I recorded Left 4 Dead 2 with OpenAL sound (snd_legacy_surround 1 on console) and Shadowplay recorded it without a problem on my X-Fi, together with microfone, even without using "What U Hear".

Can't you change STALKER's sound engine?

I'm not sure. STALKER is such a touchy engine it might break if I forced a different sound engine. I'm trying to do recordings with Call of Pripyat, so it is the newest engine build.

Otherwise STALKER CoP recordings with Shadowplay look great, and performance is good.

I'm surprised that there is nowhere else to really share content that's at all popular. We need more than ~4mbit video bitrates in the fuuuuuture and gating them to resolution is not a solution

Well said. Do Vimeo or other sites not have better bit rates than Youtube?
I honestly don't have a clue because they're "underground" enough for me to not know who to ask about them - everyone knows Youtube but i feel like there could be nobody on my contacts list that knows any specifics about Vimeo.

It's worth the research if we're gated to 4-5mbit @1080p and 30fps, some stuff looks awesome at that bitrate and other stuff is just terrible. There's a reason that even perfectly encoded Blu-rays use like 10x higher bitrate.

Not asking for blu-ray bitrates but 4-5mbit just doesn't work for everything. Some FPS games it just looks a mess, a guy on OCN wanted to upload gopro vids from biking on some mountains and all of the higher resolutions were just destroyed with no real solution

one quick question, On my windows drive (ssd) 120gb *18Gb left* I have steam an bp all that. Do you guys think breaking point might peform better on osx side? I have osx on another 500gb sata hd so im debating on using it on that instead so i have more room for footage and plus i have final cut pro ect. on there.

I think you may be on the wrong topic, Shadowplay is not available for OSX neither is Breaking Point, not even Arma 3 is available for OSX. It's late so I may have misread your post.
