[Official] Nvidia Shadowplay Discussion Thread - Page 20

Nope. Firewalled Shadowplay won't activate. (naturally)
And neither will it activate when the firewall rule is disabled.
So there is some kind of a database it connects to, but I CBA to find it out and loop it in the hosts file, see what it does and eventually try to cheat it. Doesn't seem worth it to me.

Found anything interesting? It looks like geforce expierience goes and checks in with nvidia servers when its starts. Pulled a .pcap, and saw HTTP with 2.21.40.52, assuming the beta parameters are in there somewhere, PCAP attached. Maybe someone wants to take a look.

Thanks for replying, you guys should be more transparent, even if there are delays, it does help a lot. Any idea what the issue is?

I signed up to this forum just to post here. Sooo looking forward to Shadowplay. And I just bought and installed a GTX 760 almost entirely for Shadowplay. It is nice to see official Nvidia staff putting info into this forum . Please keep shadowplay alive.

I've been waiting for Shadowplay for a longtime, but MSI Afterburner just added a nice competing feature that should hold me over until Shadowplay is actually released:

Added external QSV.DLL encoding plugin. The plugin provides you high-performance hardware accelerated H.264 encoding on Intel QuickSync Video capable platforms. Intel QuickSync H.264 encoder is able to compress 1080p video at 60 FPS with no major CPU performance hit. Hardware accelerated Intel QuickSync H.264 encoder was introduced special to compete with NVIDIA’s ShadowPlay hardware accelerated H.264 encoder. Free hardware accelerated H.264 video capture and encoding is no longer an exclusive selling point of NVIDIA Kepler GPU family, now the same functionality is available on much wider range of hardware platforms on both AMD and NVIDIA GPU based graphics cards absolutely for free!

Nvidia, more information would be nice! biggrin.gif

One of the big selling points of shadowplay though is low performance hit.

"Less than 5%"

We can handle encoding output video right now, for some games at least (Starcraft 2 for example, which is cpu bound on 1 thread, so only loads ~1.5 cores) it's pretty trivial on a high clocked 4770k to encode 1920x1080, 30fps video with better efficiency than a hardware h264 encoder, but current methods hurt performance a LOT, not from the cpu usage from encoding (which quicksync bypasses - though i might add we already had quicksync encoding for quite a while in Xsplit) but from actually grabbing screen image from the game, there's usually a very very significant performance drop a lot higher than 5% on framerates, with the smooth feeling of the game destroyed also. Maybe Shadowplay can improve on that, being actually on the GPU, and not a weird software solution through the OS. Don't really know though, there's not much good documentation of this stuff.

It surely will be alive, it will unfortunately take longer then expected. I have high hopes though, I wouldn't mind playing with 1 Titan and 1080p if ShadowPlay can do what software based recorders can not. As Cyro999 mentioned "with the smooth feeling of the game destroyed" is totally true when I use DxTory. It's a lot better then FRAPS in my experience, I'm hoping when ShadowPlay is released it will be an awesome tool to have.

Shame it doesn't actually work yet. It just crashes any game you try to use it on.

I got it to work perfectly.

Edit: I'm uploading gameplay now.

You might have to configure the QSV.dll encoder as Direct3D9 instead of Direct3D11.
