[Official] Nvidia Shadowplay Discussion Thread - Page 86

One question:

Since Shadowplay in shadow mode constantly records are re records gameplay, will using an SSD for shadowplay's destination folder "use up", "spend" the SSD faster? Since we all know SSD have a limited number of writes that they can do before they brake down.

Constant writing to an SSD, yes, will more quickly use up the lifespan.
Keep in mind as a boot drive Windows constantly reads and writes data.

So you might be looking at 20 years of SSD predicted lifespan instead of 25. That would be 24/7 use using large blocks of data.

So in short using an SSD for recordings won't impact your drive life to where you will notice. It will give you much better performance.

Well I don't keep the Windows on the SSD, because a) takes to much space b) my PC is on 24/7 so I don't need a fast boot.

20 years, 25 years? Really? With 24/7 usage? I was sure the numbers where more like 5,7 years?

I don't know who pulled the numbers up from their bottom but the expected lifetime is just crap imo, I have had mine on 24/7 for a year now and my usage is way below what they have on those "expected lifetime" numbers.

Just saying, realistic lifetime is way longer than people seem to indicate.

My Samsung 830 is rated at 1,500,000 hours.

That is roughly 171 years.

I don't expect that at all so I figure 20 years is a pretty good expectation. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147163
