hello,
first pick a case, your going to have to look at it every day. massive psu 1000 watt job.
then a asus crosshair or a sabretooth.
plug in a 8350 and some fast ram like 2133.
add ssd ,a large storage disk and dvdrw,
plug in a pair of amd 88xx or a 89xx
and then a xspc water cooling kit and some nice fans.

You don't need an expensive CPU to max out current games. I have a fx-6350 and a 7950 gpu and I can easily max out Crysis 3 and BF3 with very good frame rate.

I would put more money into the GPU and get a cheaper processor. If I were you, I would get an 8350 and then put the money you saved from not going with a more expensive intel proc and put it into a better gpu.

well I am already going with

Well I am already going with either the 770 or 780 so they are pretty powerful cards and within the budget I have.

If you have $2000 to spend then i would advise going with intel unless you want to go with AMD.

8350 all the way.

the 7970 oc editions are also a consideration as they are as good if not better than a 770 and cheaper+free games usually. sapphires got a nice one on sale @newegg for 327$http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202001&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL062813&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL062813-_-EMC-062813-Latest-_-DesktopGraphicsVideoCards-_-14202001-L04B

Also you can save some cash and wait for for steamroller to come out by just getting a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113327&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL062813&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL062813-_-EMC-062813-Latest-_-ProcessorsDesktops-_-19113327-L05D for 130$.

If you need the 2 more cores then go 8320 since its virtually the same and cheaper and only 145$. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113285&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL062513&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL062513-_-EMC-062513-Index-_-ProcessorsDesktops-_-19113285-L0C

Personally i would go 6350 and a sabertooth 990 board or even the asrock 990 extreme4 i think as they both have the better vrms for ocing. If you do this theres a good chance youll be steamroller compatible with a bios update. Thats the amd chip id wait for (if it live up to the hype)

Intel 3570k would be nice as well. If you live near a microcenter id go that route since they are nice and cheap now. Haswell is kinda overpriced imo but newegg had some nice sale combos with 100$ off mobo and cpus which helps justifying it ALOT. http://promotions.newegg.com/intel/13-2602/index.html

As for the 7870(oc ghz edition 2GB) mine runs bf3(and evrything else) maxed at 1080 fine but its a oc ghz edition so i dont know why people tell you any different. I can pull up some fps numbers if you like, later on, since i havnt downloaded fraps because it ran fine... I did notice a difference in sc2 hots fps when i oced it to 1200 core and 1500 mem(had to turn the fan up pretty high75% but temps are at 58c full load) which helped in huge baneling battles but besides that it ran great. Crysis 3 i had to turn down the one setting to 4aa or w/e it is but runs great after that.

This is just my 2cents.gif and any of these cpus will run alot better than your c2d rig. HF and GL on the silicon loto;)
