Here is the deal. Im building my cisco lab and i have 4u's open on my rack, so for the hell of it im putting in a cheap little server just to do file sharing and stuff like that. I've only messed with linux a few times in the past but im sure i know enough to get around, and if not i can use google. My question though is, what is the most optimal linux or unix flavor to run on a server? I always see people talking about Solaris, but when I researched it i learned that its suppository a "dying" distro. I would like something that would be practical for real world application, something that might come in handy to learn for the future. I'm open to all thoughts and opinions. Side note, i do have 2008 R2 if you would all recommend that instead. Thanks!
