So here is a question/thought.Could you "step down" your CPU and instead of having to boot a person who is running a 3770K or 3820 with all 4C/8T, have them run on 3C/6T and take the "CPU Wildcard" slot? Or even just disable HT all together and just run 4C/4T and in effect be running an i5, even though it is technically a Sandy or Ivy i7?
Along the same lines, could you just set your passkey up on one core of a dual core video card (ie a GTX 690 or AMD 7990)? While these would not be as high an output as the GTX 680 or AMD 7970, it would allow people who have high end video cards that are currently prohibited to participate in TC.
Allowing one or both of these options would give more flexibility in getting people into categories for those who do not have 1st generation i7's, an AMD FX, or an i5. Not to mention it would allow more/new people to join TC.
No, we're not going to handicap chips/gpu's like that. TC doesn't fold at half force.
47 Knucklehead, isn't there an option to re-align some folks, or have them shift to another team? Maybe that person could be traded to another team for someone who has the hardware you need to fill that slot?
690/7990/Titan/Crossfire/SLI, we went over it, had some suggestions, but I foresee a half filled category with teams who do have one of these GPU's never falling out of the lead, or only battling with teams that have them. Maybe we can stick a beta category in Division III for them to see how many we can get? It's not a bad idea, but I don't see many people willing to fold 24/7 on these GPU's or 2 GPU's that are comparable.
Hey, I have a 460, but it's a 4xx and we're on 7xx now. The point spread between a 460 and a 580 is less than the spread we have from top to bottom in the 2 other GPU Categories. Fairness is just too hard and complicated with Core_17. The only reasonable solution to balance out the teams is what anubis1127 said, Extreme Restrictions. Unfortunately, this is actually a prized competition, and the old offset methods are absolutely don't fly. I don't even like saying 780 can be restricted to 1 of the 2 categories. I'd rather remove the GPU Elite GPU's from nVidia and AMD myself to eliminate the restriction. I can also see people Cherry Picking joining nVidia GPU over GPU Elite with a 780 just to stomp the rest of the folders in nVidia with ease.
