I read the ideas. I like some of Gary's. I support allowing new hardware to be added on release day. We've waited, debated, and argued for months while people with new hardware are turned away from the competition. I feel new hardware with the same core/thread counts should be allowed in TC on release day. It does contradict the old debate that people who pimp out their hardware, and dominate are the elite members we've sought out, but then end up being jumped over by someone who just purchased the next gen and hit the fold button after a modest OC. Still, it would be nice to play with the new stuff right away rather than wait. It also allows a big shakeup whenever new hardware releases which makes things interesting. People who want to buy new hardware can just do it from now on rather than waiting on the lengthy debate to end.
We could also be slightly reactive if we see something unbearably unfair too.
I don't like the idea of making the CPU Categories the way you've suggested though. They should remain restricted. I also don't believe an AMD CPU Category would come anywhere near being filled, but it would be great if we could do it that way because AMD never stacks up to Intel. It's much easier to add the new chips in an AMD CPU only category under the format you're suggesting. I don't feel it would work though; there's not enough AMD CPU folders.
I still feel the AMD 6 cores and the i5 4 cores have a place in their own category in TC. I suppose my suggestion would be to kill the i7-2 category and that's it for now.
I believe it was either November or December of 2012 when TC was completely full. We added a team that already had their 6 folders in line. The horse people even waited 6-8 months before finally being added to the Competition, but right afterward we started seeing people leaving here and there. I think we were up to between 15 and 20 folders needed by the time I stepped aside and anubis1127 came aboard. Does that sound about right Dan?
Poor guy stepped into a nightmare since sks72 vanished on us. Has anyone talked to him by the way?
Needless to say, if this community bands together we can fix this competition without (C. Russell 2012) 'throwing the hammer down' on some teams without folders. I think it's a priority to fill the teams with folders first, but I believe we don't need to extinguish the teams with zero folders just yet. We can leave them in, or we can hide them for now. Maybe they can be replaced and retired if that helps add more people who want to form new teams instead.
Let's nail this new format down by the 15th so we can have 15 days to recruit. I'm fairly certain a referral contest will be established for August too. I could run that even if I'm not relocated quite yet. Oh, and yes that means I will be returning, again...
