been looking into a router that has excellent bandwidth manager/QoS. I have a few in this household that streams/download heavily.

Narrowed it down to the RT-AC66U.

Shibby's Tomato CFW looks great and it currently supports the AC66U without 5GHz...I'm sure he'll figure a way to get 5GHz in.

I was set on getting that router when I found out about the AC68U. I am curious if the Dual-core processor will be able to handle a heavier load? Ram and flash seems unchanged @ 128MB and 256MB respectively.

But I'm worried since it's based on Cortex A9 architecture that CFW mod will be non-existent for the first year or two of its release. Which leads me to ask if the stock Asus firmware is any good for BW management/QoS? I need up/down speed/# of connections limited via port/IP etc.

Price isn't a concern and I dont have any draft AC compatible hardware but I thought it would be a handy spec to have for future devices I might have that can support it (hence why I am not considering the N66U

Damn, a dual-core router, you should be about to handle anything you throw at it, and handle QOS very well.

http://support.asus.com/FAQ/Detail.aspx?SLanguage=en&no=A96BF68D-98C9-9D26-129A-3D5E596D3073&p=11&m=RT-N16
QOS management page seems simple to use and should do what you need... as for actually experience with ASUS routers, i got none.

Most places are still charging $200 for the AC66U, and when the AC68U come out its it will drop maybe $20. Wait for the AC68U the price will be about the same.

Quick glance at the Asus qos page doesn't seem to have bw control by ports or ip address
