I got this monitor on a sale ($580 all inclusive) and when I test it, it has crazy effects, no dead pixel from what I can see though, I will keep looking:
Photo says all, they are taken with my DSLR and iphone respectively
Monitor settings:
Brightness:90
Contrast:70

Do you guys think this is some defect? Should I exchange it or just return and go for a cheaper Korean model?

As long as it doesnt bother you too much, keep it. Hard to judge from pics whether or not it is a defect.

That looks pretty bad...
I would just get a replacement from ASUS. You pay a premium for these monitors and you shouldn't have to put up with things like backlight bleed. I have a Dell U2713HM, and it had pretty bad backlight bleed (probably a bit worse then yours). Got a replacement next day from Dell and the backlight bleed is nowhere near as bad and is very limited to the left corner. In normal usage you can't even notice it and only when on a black background in a dark room can you really see it. Hope all goes well.
