i5 2500k is this normal vid? - Page 2

No, your VID is good, exactly the same as mine, and my friends. That is required to run the chip at that clock, if it ryns with a vcore lower than that, all good.

Yes your mobo is missing the control which sets your CPU voltage mode. You are stuck with Offset mode. Which means lotsa trial and error.

First, put everything on auto including AI Overclock Mode, reboot, go into bios, and see the CPU voltage on the monitoring section. (check EZ mode. and if it's not in Normal mode, set it so, then go to boot menu and set Setup to Advanced mode.)

Then watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crlnrUwezOY

I think you should do Turbo overclocking. Which means it's gonna lower voltage and speed on idle and give voltage + offset and turbo ratio on load. So you'll leave speedstep, turbo and c1e enabled. Adjust the Turbo ratio to desired level, and for 4400+ mhz, you need Load Line Calibration Enabled to counter voltage drops. Set AI Overclock mode to Manual then Turbo Ratio to By All Cores. Set Turbo Ratio to 45x, set cpu offset + to whtever gets you around 1.35v (according to the voltage you saw in monitoring earlier) I'd try + 0.075v first and see if you can boot into setup. Check cpu voltage under Monitoring page all the time. Then compare to voltage you see in OS, cpu-z or hardwaremonitor. Use only 1 app to see the voltage. So you can notice the changes better.

PS: Until you get the hang of the voltage settings while overclocking, never boot into OS directly. Always go into Setup Monitoring and check voltages and temps first.

I have the safe question here I have an 2500k @ 4.5 ghz and my max vcore is 1.296 all on auto but the vid reading is at about 1.411V on max load so do I have something not ordinary?

I'm pretty sure the VID means nothing except base voltage is using offset to set the vcore. But since you manually set a voltage in the bios it uses that value instead.

So every time you up the multiplier the VID changes.

Alright I'll rephrase, and this is from my experience.

The VID changes in my bios depending on the multiplier I use. The higher the multi the higher my VID. When using OFFSET voltage, my vcore is based off of the VID. So yeah I guess it isn't the auto setting voltage, but the voltage that is the basis when using the offset voltage.

Although who knows really. VID doesn't really mean/do anything. I would just ignore it.
