Following on from statements by president of EA Labels, Frank Gibeau (who seems to have more free reign on what he can say than Söderlund), we can assume that much of the reason this couldn’t be done on a current gen is because of the size of the open world being created. We could also speculate about player numbers in game, with perhaps some sort of large open world race mechanic.
Does adding more action to the game worries you?
“Gaming is continuously evolving and when I go back and play Mirror’s Edge today, it feels old compared to what’s out there today, in design approach and everything. There are still some fresh things in the way that it looks and feels – it still looks really good, actually. But it still feels a little bit old school on its game design and compulsion loops.”
