I think you answered your own question. If you are short of money why spend extra when the S3 is much better than 99% of people needs.

The reason you should spend the extra $100 on GS4 is that in a year GS4 would be worth more than $100 more than GS3. Unless the other $100 is really needed for something else the GS4 is well worth the price difference.

That's only a valid argument if you plan on selling your phone every year. Otherwise, it's pointless.

Why advise the guy to spend more money when he said he's broke?

GS3 is more than awesome and it was cutting edge until recently... It's not like he is buying a Nokia 3310

And if you sell it in year 2 then GS4 would be worth $100+ more than the GS3(just check the resale price on swappa of GS3 vs GS2 vs GS). If the guy says he is broke why is he considering GS4 at all? If he have the disposible income to afford a GS4 then GS4 >> GS3+$100 unless he have something really important to buy with that $100, because that $100 extra he spend on the GS4 would come back whenever he sell the GS4 in the next 2 years.

Used a GS3 for the last year, sold it and upgraded to GS4, the battery life is much better. The 24% increase in battery size completely wipes out the extra consumption for the faster processor & 1080p screen.

I think what he meant about being broke is that his his budget range as in he can spring the additional if its really worth it, since the upgrade he can go for the S3 for $100 but he was wondering if it would be worth it for the S4 being $150 more in price.

Its tough on a tech forum because people will suggest the newer or better stuff unless there is something faulty about it. But it will also depend on your use. If you're going to use the phone just as regular, as long as it works kind of deal the S3 will suit all that, the S4 improves on that but at a cost since it is a newer phone as in it came out a few months ago while the S3 is almost a year now. I mentioned some of the things that would be the difference between the two so if those factors are of concern then you might want to look into it.

Theres the feeling of if I paid more I couldve gotten a lot more and then also buyers remorse on saying aww man I should've gotten the newer one, its always like that especially if you dont have money to throw around thats why you ask for advice.

Resale value on phones is of concern to some people because they do it. Last year I had a Skyrocket, sold it to my mom for $100 (accessories, extended batt etc..) when I got my Nexus 4, then she got my bro to sell it online after she got a new phone, my bro ended up selling it for $175. So there is always a market for that esp (gsm phones) but since hes going to be using a cdma phone the resale value isnt as good.

Your second best bet is to test the phone for yourself, go to the store and hold it test it out. Look at the weigh, size and how the screen looks. Test the phone out check how fast it is.
