Does anyone have experience overclocking the bus on 970 or 990fx chipsets?

Hello everyone. I need a new motherboard for a C3 stepping Phenom II X4 Deneb with a locked multiplier. I'm looking at the GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 and GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3, but I have a quick question. When I overclock the system bus on these boards, is there a multiplier that I can adjust to stop the other components from being overclocked? I do not want to fry the SB, my hard drives, etc..
Thanks in advance for your help!

are you referring to [CPU-NB ratio] and [HT Link speed]?

I don't have any experience with these chipsets, so I honestly don't know. The last boards that I overclocked were a 750i FTW and P45 DFI Lanparty..

EDIT: I just looked up those settings, and yes. That is exactly what I was talking about! Thanks biggrin.gif

I've done some bus OCing on this CHV, it's not really any different than other AMD boards.

Buses like PCI and PCIE have a lock on them, so you don't have to worry about ancient overclocking articles that indicate the PCI bus going out of spec and toasting expansion cards, etc. The dividers you have to keep in mind are as follows:
  • CPU/NB
  • HT
  • RAM

CPU/NB and HT are 2000 MHz at stock. RAM should match somewhere near with whatever RAM you have in there, but the IMC on those platforms isn't too great past 1600 (I could only reliably get mid 1700s from my X6 1090T using DDR3 2000 RAM).
