What do to? 2500k -> 2600k / Ivy? / Haswell?

What to upgrade too? That is my qeustion.

Currently i run a 2500k on 1.51v 4.9GHz and dont come over 85c in IBT during hottest of the day.
A friend of mine bought a IVY cpu, what is stable on 4.8ghz 1.25v, that sounds really nice.

But if you read the OCN forums, there are so many users with ''sucky'' Ivy/Haswell chips, i dont know if its smart to go that route.

It seems the chance of getting a good OCer gets smaller each new CPU version,

Here in my local town, i can guy a Lapped 2600k, that runs 4.8GHz on 1.35v.

So all in al, stay on 2500k? Go 2600k? Go Ivy? Go Haswell?

What do you think is the smart way to go?

Reason i want more cpu power is that i can see my hd7970 doesnt get 100% contstant usage on 1080p in all games, so i thought maybe upgrade my CPU now, then when BF4 is released i go to a better GPU.

Your 2500k @ 4.9 is fantastic. Very unlikely an ivy/haswell upgrade will yield similar performance results let alone better. Getting gen 3-4 intels above 4.5 is lucky.

Looks like you plan on playing BF4....the 2600k should provide a nice minimum fps boost. That game looks very CPU intensive with all of their destruction this time.

Yea its just my 2500k ''feels old'' but at this point there is not much ''better'' choice,

The risk of getting a sucky ivy/haswell and only getting 4.2g would be allmost like a downgrade i suppose,

i geuss ill make an offer on the 2600k

2600K would be a pretty good upgrade, it helped me with min fps in BF3. I sold my 2500K for 150€ and bought 2600K for 180€, inexpensive upgrade smile.gif. Seems like that 2600K you are looking for is a good one, usually 4,8GHz needs at least 1.4v. About Ivy, it's like lottery. There's some fantastic 3770K's and some that down right suck (impossible to get over 4,2GHz etc.) If you get across used 3770K, ask about oc before buying.

Dont get eye/brainwashed by the industry.. even with "normal" 4.6ghz theres almost no
difference @ gaming.. if you want MOAR powah add a 2nd GPU and layback like a boss.

@smex,
You are showing a GPU benchmark, ussualy they dont rely that much on CPU power,

On BF3, if you have a 2500k and Crossfire hd7970,you will see GPU Usage drop to +- 70-80% on the two cards on 64 Player Big Vehicle Maps
--> I seen this in a thread on Overclock.net, cant find it right now but ill keep looking

Even i notice gpu usage drops to +- 90%-95% when i run my HD7970 on 1300mhz core and 1900mhz ram, on a 4.9ghz 2500k.

and i think that if you cant use 100% gpu usage, whats the point in paying for expensive gpu and not even using it to the fullest

Why i want more CPU Power? When bf4 is launched im probably gonne upgrade my gpu, and ill have more gpu power to feed.

At this point im thinking to go for the 2600k that runs 4.8g on 1.35v, And hoping it does atleast 5.1g / 5.2g around max of 1.52v

if i would go Ivy / Haswell i need a new motherboard too (Dont like the idea of ivy on a p67), and then i have to draw a ticket on the cpu lottery.
