Help! Build gone wrong - GTX 770 - Page 2

So, unplug old HDD, install windows. I have my old disc, but won't its authentication code be considered used? Do I have to get a new copy of windows 7? If so, I'll grab it on my way home. Or will my old, used copy of Windows 7 work?

You do not need to purchase another copy. I have changed hard drives 3 times with my copy of Win7 and had no problems. Worst case scenario you have to call their authentication number and punch in the code they give you over the phone. It takes about 5 minutes for the entire call and you don't even speak to a live person.

EDIT: also, for the graphics card, how would I go about testing each component individually, when the gpu has the means to connect to the screen?

If you own the windows copy and ACTUALLY have not put it on other machines, usual case is an automated phone call to MS, new activation and move on. Even if that fails, you will have like 30 days to remedy the situation. But you should be fine.

Had a similar problem not to long ago when I reset bios. When I loaded OS SATA was set to RAID but on bios reset it went to AHCI mode.

Try to set SATA to AHCI , RAID or IDE and try reboot.

Just got home - tried this via BIOS and no dice with either AHCI, IDE, or RAID settings.

About to try (what I hope to be) the solution everyone has quickly suggested. Will update after.

Yup. No problem man. I have had a similar issue before and the fact you bought a new HDD just makes it an easier fix for you. Glad I could help.

Hahah, indeed it is!

I have spent all morning fixing my filepaths, however. That's a bit of a drag.
