Is there a chance for Case or Power Supply technology to change in the next few months or year?

I'm thinking of starting building very slowly a PC and I wonder if I can just buy a Case and a PSU now. After all, their electronics or structural technology won't change that easily. I'm only worried about the form factors and connections.

So are connections and case form factors projected to remain the same for time to come?

I don't think anything is going to change, but I don't recommend building it piece by piece because you could very well not like your choice when i t comes time to buy other parts. New cases with new designs are coming out fairly often, and you may see something you like a lot better come out about the time you buy the rest of your parts. When it comes to other parts, better things always come out, so it's no good to sit on a motherboard or a CPU that may be updated by the time you actually end up using it.

the last contender for change was BTX and that failed miserably in the consumer market. that form factor survives well today only in servers and DELL's tongue.gif

if you look into why BTX failed in the consumer market, you will understand why ATX is never going away biggrin.gif i think it's a safe bet to say that ATX will be around for at least the next decade or more biggrin.gif

as far as changes in PSU... if you get a quality unit today, it will serve you well till it dies (guessing a good lifespan would be around 8 to 10 years or so for a quality unit) and yah it's not going to be obsolete if you get a quality unit.
