Which Intel NIC for pfSense Firewall?

Thread Starter
Hey guys.

Networking gear is out of my knowledge base, so I need a little (lot) of help. My brother and I are putting together a pfSense firewall and we're in need of a NIC card. The motherboard is a GIGABYTE ga-m68mt-s2p, which means I have a x16 PCI-E slot, two x1 PCI-E slots, and a legacy PCI slot available. Intel gigabit NICS seem to be held in higher regard than others, but there are a ton to choose from. If possible we'd like one that also had wireless / bluetooth, but if that needs to be a second card then no big deal either.

Any advise would be awesome.

Intel EXPI9301CTBLK is highly rated and should work fine with pfsense.

While you might be able to get by with a simple USB WiFi adapter, an Ethernet-connected WAP might serve you better. It requires an Ethernet port, only runs at 10/100Mbps, and uses the 2.4GHz band.
TEW-637AP

Here's something for BT: IOGEAR GBU521 Bluetooth 4.0 Micro Adapter
Since this works on the same band as the WAP, it could cause interference on your WiFi network.

I too would also go with a wap. If you use a router now, you can turn it into a wap.
