7950 Crossfire Question

Thread Starter
Hey OCers,

Just upgraded my LANbox to the following -

3770k @ 4.2 under Hyper 212 Evo
32GB Crucial DDR3-1600 (16GB BallistiX Tactical, 16GB BallistiX Sport)
ASRock Z77 Pro4-m
2x MSI 7950OC in CF
OCZ ZT-Series 750W PSU

Now, in my Silverstone SG-09B, the PCI-E slot I use for my second card is only a x1 slot... Stupid me, not checking before skipping off to Microcenter to buy parts. Looks like I need to get the Extreme4-m instead.

How much will running my 2nd 7950 in a PCI-E 3.0 X1 slot actually hamper my performance? 20%? 50%? The Extreme4 is only $20 more, so I'm not too worried about returning the Pro4 and ordering an Extreme4 from Newegg/Amazon, but I'm just curious.

Have a pic for your troubles... thanks for taking the time to help me out!

My guess on performance loss would be around 30-40%

Yep, I'm tearing it back down tomorrow and ordering a Z77 Extreme4-m, which is 8/8.

Edit: Extreme4-m has been ordered.
